New sign-ups to the Amex Cashback Everyday Credit Card can earn a boosted up-to-£125 cashback over a longer time period. Here’s how it stacks up.

American Express has upped the sign-up bonus for new Cashback Everyday Credit Card holders, offering 5% cashback up to a maximum of £125, rather than the previous £100 cap.

As part of the boosted offer, new cardholders will also have a longer time period to make transactions, rising from the usual three months to five months.

Amex said its revised offer gives cardmembers “more time and opportunity to benefit from the 5% introductory cashback rate”.

It added that the 5% offer is currently the highest cashback earn rate of any UK credit card, and that there’s no end date for this new sign-up bonus, which was originally trialled in February for a limited time.

After the five-month period, approved cardholders can then continue to earn up to 1% cashback as usual. This is based on 0.5% cashback on spends of up to £10,000 each cardmember year, and 1% cashback for those spending above £10,000.

As long as you spend a minimum of £3,000 in your card membership year, every full £1 you spend on purchases qualifies for cashback.

The Amex Cashback Everyday Credit Card comes with zero annual fees, and there’s no cap on cashback that can be earned after the initial welcome bonus. However, be mindful of its representative APR 31% variable and 31% purchase (variable) rate.

You can check your eligibility for the credit card before taking the plunge, which won’t affect your credit rating.

You may be able to boost cashback further – by up to £150 when referring a friend who is approved (£20 for each additional successful referral).

And, by adding family members or partners to your account, you may be able to earn cashback even faster. Cashback Everyday Credit Card members are entitled to up to five complimentary supplementary cards (subject to approval), with spending on all cards earning cashback.

Meanwhile, the Cashback Everyday Credit Card also offers exclusive access to sports, music and theatre events before tickets go on general sale. There are also discounts on a range of dining, entertainment, retail and travel brands.

Amex vs Amazon

Until 27 August, Amex is serving up 40,000 reward points, plus £400 travel credit and the chance to win tickets to the 2025 Wimbledon Championships for new Platinum members. The reward points are worth £200, but the card comes with a hefty £650 annual fee, you need to spend £6,000 in the first three months, and it has an APR of 704.6%.

All in all, accepted cardmembers get £800 worth of deals and rewards, with one expert saying the card “blows every other personal credit card out of the water”.

However, if this one’s not one for you, then the new Amazon Barclaycard may be a good fit.

Launched this week, sign-ups to the new Amazon Barclaycard can earn up to 2% back on spends, plus a £20 welcome voucher for the online marketplace.

It’s considered a decent card for Amazon fans, though others may want to consider the Chase debit card, which offers 1% back on a wider range of retailers.
