Tesco and Volkswagen have joined forces to launch the UK’s largest electric vehicle charging network.

The two companies have agreed to install 2,400 electric vehicle charging bays across 600 Tesco stores over the next three years.

The move will cater for growing demand for electric vehicles and part-electric vehicles across the UK, with charging bays available in Tesco Extra and Superstore car parks.

The supermarket chain and fuel retailer said the partnership underscored its commitment to offering customers an alternative to fossil fuels.

Tesco UK chief executive Jason Tarry commented: “We want to be the leading electric vehicle energy provider and to support our customers with more sustainable solutions.”

Geraldine Ingham, head of marketing at Volkswagen UK, added: “This incredibly exciting partnership underlines the scale and ambition of our electric car programme in the UK.”
