Two Premium Bonds holders have scooped the tax-free million-pound jackpot in August’s draw. Are you a winner?

The first Premium Bonds millionaire is from Outer London, holding £24,155 in the popular NS&I product.

Their winning bond number – 516FV135553 – was bought fewer than two years ago in October 2022. They become the 12th £1m jackpot winner from Outer London.

Meanwhile, the second million-pound winner is from Devon, with their bond number 245FP902498 being selected. They bought their winning ticket in May 2015 and hold £30,275 in total.

They are the 18th Premium Bonds jackpot millionaire from Devon.

There were more than 5.9 million prizes ranging from £25 to £1m in August’s draw, with a total payout worth £457m. There were 124.6 billion bond numbers eligible for the draw, with the odds of any £1 bond number winning a prize at 21,000 to one. The annual prize fund rate stands at 4.4%.

Are you a Premium Bonds winner?

While the million-pound jackpot winners find out on the first working day of the month, for everyone else, you’ll need to wait until Friday 2 August. You can check the NS&I website, the prize checker app, or ask ‘Alexa’.

However, you can get a sneak peek of the August winners, and this reveals one lucky holder from Kent with just £100 scooped £100,000. Another holder in Devon with £500 saved has also won the six-figure sum.

In total, 87 people won £100,000 and 176 won £50,000, while 349 holders will see their balance grow by £25,000. More than 1.4 million people will receive £25 each.

All Premium Bonds prizes are free of UK income tax and capital gains tax.

Unclaimed Premium Bonds prizes

Premium Bonds prize winners receive notifications of their winnings if they have registered their contact details. However, there are instances where customers relocate or forget to update their contact details with NS&I.

This can lead to unclaimed prizes, especially for those who opt to receive their prizes via cheque rather than bank transfer.

Currently, there are 2,433,843 unclaimed prizes worth £86m waiting to be claimed.

In Outer London, there are 235,985 prizes worth £8.2m that are yet to be claimed. In Devon, there are 40,729 unclaimed prizes worth £1.3m.

Customers can choose to have their prizes paid directly to their bank account or reinvested into more Premium Bonds. NS&I, the Government’s savings arm, said nine in 10 prizes are already paid in this way and it’s quicker and more secure than waiting for a cheque.

‘What a great way to start the summer holidays’

Andrew Westhead, NS&I’s retail director, said: “Congratulations to our two new millionaires from Outer London and Devon. What a great way to start the summer holidays.

“It’s not just about our jackpot winners, though, as we’re paying out over £457m in prizes this month. One winner from Kent scooped £100,000 with only a £100 holding in Premium Bonds. Another £100,000 winner bought their winning bond nearly 30 years ago in 1995 – I hope it was worth the wait!

“The best way to receive prizes hassle-free is to have them paid direct to your bank account, or automatically reinvested into more Premium Bonds.”
