HyperJar users who haven’t used their account in the past year will be charged £3 per month from 3 June 2025. The fee will be taken directly from members’ HyperJar account balance.
What is HyperJar?
HyperJar is a free money management app and prepaid debit Mastercard. Launched in 2020, it functions as a digital “jam jar” budgeting system, allowing users to divide their money into separate “jars” for specific spending categories, such as bills or holidays. Users can pay directly from these jars using the linked HyperJar card.
Other app features include shared expenses, bill splitting with other HyperJar users, and cashback rewards with selected retailers. Partner retailers include Tui, Waterstones, Laithwaites, Sainsbury’s and Shell.
Retailer jars enable users to commit to spending a set amount of money with a certain retailer in the future. Money in retailer jars can earn an annual growth rate of 4.8% for 12 months.
Kids’ cards offer parents control over children’s spending, with spending limits and instant notifications.

How to avoid the HyperJar inactivity fee
There are several ways HyperJar members can avoid paying the £3 per month charge:
- Make a transaction using their HyperJar account
- Send money to, or receive money from, another bank or HyperJar account
- Move HyperJar money from one ‘jar’ to another
- Buy a ‘Cashback Voucher’ or ‘HyperVoucher’
Closing your HyperJar account
If you don’t plan to use HyperJar anymore, ensure you have a zero balance and use any remaining vouchers before closing it.
You can close your account via the app or through HyperJar’s online chat.
